“We are a global movement that advocates for inner development and enables its integration into society.”
YES and LOVE IT sprang to mind.
Having previously worked in an NGO the original IDG mission of being an accelerator for the achievement of the UNSDG’s was brilliant, but not enough. When thinking and discussing the IDG’s I would often envision a rocket needing more fuel and knowing where it is heading.
The “heading” for my rocket is a movement from thinking of “I” to “WE”. We are all part of an integrated, interconnected whole. Whilst the UNSDG’s have 17 separate goals the heading is to create one whole thriving world for everyone and for nature.
The “fuel” is increasing the level of global consciousness, as advanced by futurist thinkers like Tomas Bjorkman, the founder of the IDG’s.
Consciousness is a tough word to explain but let me try.
Awareness – Self, Social, Political, Economic, Nature, Climate, and Technology awareness are some. When we know more about the world about us and the crises we face it is easy to get overwhelmed. The second part is getting to know ourselves better so that we do not get overwhelmed (inner stability). Then there is treating other people as you would like to be treated yourself, with equity and kindness (external equilibrium).
My thanks to Richard Barrett, a renowned guru on consciousness and values, who outlined this in a webinar I attended. He clarified consciousness as:
“Awareness + Inner Stability + External Equilibrium”.
My personal commitment is to a mindful, connected, and nurturing world, in-formed by nature.
What do you think of the new IDG mission and how would you integrate this into society?
